A 21-year-old casual labourer, John Idonesit, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, accused of stabbing his neighbour with a broken bottle during a dispute over unpaid security fees.

Idonesit, a resident of No. 40, Oba Dosunmu Street, GRA, Ikeja, faces charges of grievous harm and property destruction.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Olusegun Oke told the court that the incident occurred on 16 December 2024 at Idonesit’s residence. He alleged that an argument between Idonesit and his neighbour, Anthony Etuk, escalated, leading to the defendant breaking a bottle and stabbing Etuk in the neck, causing severe bleeding. Etuk was later taken to hospital for treatment.

Oke further claimed that Idonesit also damaged Etuk’s Samsung phone, valued at N110,000, during the altercation.

The charges contravene Sections 173 and 350 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Idonesit pleaded not guilty. Magistrate T.O. Fashanu granted him bail in the sum of N200,000, requiring two sureties in like amount.

The case was adjourned to 17 February for further proceedings.
