The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), along with other emergency services, successfully rescued a driver trapped under a 40-foot container in a dramatic operation on Monday.
According to LASTMA’s Director, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the incident occurred at Mile 2 when a loaded container, en route to Apapa, fell onto a Toyota Camry with the registration number LSR 293 HJ.
Bakare-Oki stated that the swift and coordinated response of LASTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) led to the driver’s miraculous rescue. The individual was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical treatment after being extracted from beneath the container.
Security during the operation was maintained by officers from the Kirikiri Police Division, who ensured a safe and controlled environment for the emergency responders.
The Toyota Camry was successfully freed from under the container, and efforts to evacuate the fallen cargo are ongoing. LASTMA officials continue to manage the scene to minimize traffic congestion and restore normal flow.
Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of proper container security by truck drivers and owners, stressing that negligence in this area could lead to dangerous accidents. He urged all road users to adhere strictly to road safety regulations to prevent such incidents in the future.
