The Lagos State Government has reopened the Oko Oba abattoir in Agege, just ten days after it was shut down for violating environmental regulations.
The facility was closed on June 20 after government officials inspected the premises and found it operating in poor sanitary conditions.
The inspection revealed that the operators were not following the safety rules laid down for abattoirs across the state.
However, following improvements made by those running the abattoir, the government gave the go-ahead for business to resume.
The reopening was based on the operators meeting the required level of cleanliness and hygiene demanded by the authorities.
The Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has also directed that monthly checks will now take place at the abattoir.
These inspections are meant to ensure that cleanliness is maintained and proper waste handling continues.
When reporters visited the area on Saturday morning, activities had returned to normal, with butchers and buyers back at work.
