Lagos Clears Air on Fake 2025 Election Notice

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has dismissed a false election notice making the rounds on social media, which claimed that local government elections would be held in July 2025.

The notice, which began to circulate widely online, claimed that chairmanship and councillorship elections had been scheduled for July 19, 2025.

However, LASIEC has made it clear that this information is not from the commission and should not be taken seriously.

The head of LASIEC, Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, stated that the commission did not release any such notice and warned residents, political parties, and other concerned groups to ignore it.

According to her, any official announcement about local government elections in the state will be shared through proper channels, especially in widely-read newspapers across the country, as required by law.

She explained that the process for conducting elections in Lagos State follows strict legal steps and that the public will be informed at the right time.

The commission urged everyone to remain calm and wait for genuine updates that will come from approved platforms.

The fake notice caused confusion among some residents and party members, but LASIEC has now clarified that no election date has been set.

The commission also advised people to be careful about information they see online and to confirm from official sources before spreading news.
