The Labour Party has announced the indefinite suspension of its planned governorship primary election for Anambra State, which was set for Saturday, April 5, 2025.
This decision comes in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling on Friday afternoon, which removed Julius Abure from his position as the national chairman of the Labour Party.
The court also ordered Abure and his team to vacate the party’s headquarters at all levels.
Peter Okoye, the acting chairman of the Labour Party in Anambra State, confirmed the postponement of the election.
He explained that any primary election conducted by an executive outside of Senator Nenadi Usman would not be valid.
Okoye stated that the new leadership would take over the national secretariat and all other structures nationwide immediately.
In a conversation with The Guardian, Okoye revealed that a meeting has been arranged with the acting executive of the Labour Party in Anambra for Saturday to discuss the next steps.
He called on members and supporters to stay united and patient as the party works through the situation.
Okoye also reassured them that the Labour Party remains the fastest-growing political party in Anambra and across Nigeria, and that efforts are underway to resolve the issues.
He urged members to stay alert for further instructions.
