Abayomi Arabambi, a prominent member of a faction within the Labour Party (LP), has revealed plans to expel key figures, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, during an upcoming National Convention of the party.
In a recent interview on TVC, Arabambi, who serves as the party’s Publicity Secretary, accused Obi and Otti of causing internal strife and prioritizing personal political ambitions over the party’s unity.
“These individuals are focused solely on their own interests. We won’t allow them to disrupt the Labour Party,” Arabambi stated.
He also reaffirmed that Julius Abure remains the legitimate National Chairman of the party, despite claims from other factions. Arabambi insisted that the Supreme Court had not issued a ruling against Abure’s position.
When asked about restoring peace within the party, Arabambi was firm: “The National Convention will resolve everything. Peter Obi, Governor Otti, and others already suspended will be expelled without hesitation.”
Arabambi dismissed corruption allegations against Abure made by a rival faction, calling them “laughable and unfounded.”
He also criticized Nenadi Usman, the leader of the faction making the allegations, calling her an outsider with no authority to make such accusations. “She led Obi’s Obidient movement but isn’t even a registered member of the Labour Party. How can someone who isn’t part of us issue disciplinary threats?” Arabambi questioned, branding Usman as the “Headmistress of Corruption” and accusing her of negotiating a plea deal over her own legal troubles.
In the meantime, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it has not yet recognized any change in the Labour Party’s national leadership, clarifying that it is still reviewing court rulings, including a recent Supreme Court decision that overturned an appellate court’s affirmation of Abure’s chairmanship.
