The Kwara State House of Assembly has approved the 2026 Appropriation Bill with a total budget size of ₦656.5 billion, reflecting a ₦10.5 billion increase from the proposal earlier submitted by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The budget was passed during plenary after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, following a detailed review of the estimates presented by the executive arm of government.
Speaker of the House, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, said the upward adjustment was the outcome of careful scrutiny aimed at ensuring fiscal realism and effective implementation of the budget in the interest of the people of the state. He explained that the revisions were guided by the need to align government spending with development priorities and prevailing economic conditions.
According to the approved breakdown, recurrent expenditure rose to over ₦409.6 billion, representing an increase of about ₦10.5 billion from the original estimate. Capital expenditure was also adjusted upward to ₦271 billion from ₦254 billion to provide stronger funding for infrastructure and development projects across Kwara State.
The Speaker further disclosed that provision for debt servicing in the 2026 fiscal year now stands at ₦14.2 billion, slightly higher than earlier projections. He assured that the House would continue to exercise its oversight functions to ensure proper implementation of the budget and accountability in public spending for the benefit of residents of the state.
