Kidnapped Catholic Priest Freed in Kaduna

The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan has confirmed the release of Rev. Fr. Ibrahim Amos, who was abducted by armed bandits early Thursday from his residence in Kurmin Risga, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Fr. Amos, the parish priest of St. Gerald Quasi Parish, was freed later that same day and returned safely around 10:00 p.m., according to an official statement from the diocesan chancellor, Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet. He reported that the priest was unharmed upon his return.

In a heartfelt message, Shanet expressed gratitude to the security agencies and the public for their unwavering support during the ordeal.

He thanked everyone for their prayers and solidarity, acknowledging the collective effort in securing the priest’s release.

“Your love, prayers, and support remind us that we are not alone in the fight to uphold human dignity,” Shanet said.

He also offered a prayer for those still in captivity, invoking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the angels, asking for their safe return to their families and communities.

The kidnapping adds to the rising number of abductions in Southern Kaduna, where religious leaders have become frequent targets of violence.
