Festus Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, has called for President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027, stressing that it is essential for the continuity of the ongoing reforms. He warned that any new government that interrupts these reforms would be making a “tragic” mistake.
In an interview with Channels TV on Monday, Keyamo explained that the success of Tinubu’s policies hinges on his second term. “I don’t care whether it affects me or not. I don’t care if I lose politically. What matters is that President Tinubu must be reelected,” he stated.
The aviation minister also expressed his readiness to make personal sacrifices, including stepping down from his leadership role in the APC in Delta, to ensure Tinubu’s reelection. He urged all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to set aside personal ambitions for the greater goal of securing the president’s second term.
“Every APC member in Nigeria should focus on ensuring President Bola Tinubu’s reelection, regardless of their own interests. He needs a second term to complete these reforms,” Keyamo remarked.
His comments come amidst critical assessments from international bodies. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has pointed out persistent challenges such as widespread poverty and food inflation under Tinubu’s leadership. Furthermore, the World Bank’s Africa Pulse report for April 2025 highlighted that Nigeria has the highest number of extremely poor people globally, with warnings that poverty levels could worsen by 2027 under Tinubu’s administration.
