The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has raised concerns about discrepancies in the payment of the recently announced ₦75,000 minimum wage for local government workers and teachers.
The state government had pledged in October that workers across both state and local government levels would begin receiving the new wage.
However, local government staff and teachers in all 21 local government areas reportedly received salaries significantly below this amount when payments were made in November.
Reports from workers in affected categories reveal that many on Grade Levels 3, 4, and 5 received less than ₦40,000, sparking widespread dissatisfaction.
The PDP expressed frustration over the disparity between the promised amount and actual wages, questioning why state workers and their local government counterparts were paid differently.
The party has urged the Kebbi State government to fulfill its commitment, pointing out that underpaid workers, especially teachers, are vital to the state’s development.
The PDP also challenged the government to provide clarity on the wage implementation process.
