The Katsina State Government has suspended Aminu Usman, the chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Dutsinma, after he reportedly released false information about a federal road closure due to insecurity.
The action was taken after Usman issued a message on Wednesday, telling drivers to avoid the Dutsinma-Yantumaki-Mararabar Kankara road.
He claimed the road had been shut down because of security threats.
This message quickly spread on social media, causing fear and confusion among road users.
However, both the Katsina State Government and the NURTW leadership in the state denied the claim.
They stated clearly that the road in question is open and safe for public use.
The announcement came during a press conference held in Katsina by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Zango, alongside the state NURTW Chairman, Musa Yandoma.
The government explained that Usman acted without consulting the union’s state leadership or other relevant authorities before issuing the message.
They described his actions as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among citizens.
Authorities urged residents and travelers to ignore the false road closure report and continue using the route.
They confirmed that security personnel are still present along the road to protect commuters.
The road remains a vital link for the movement of goods and people, and shutting it down would disrupt daily activities and affect the local economy.
Security agencies and the government assured the public that efforts are ongoing to keep the area safe, and warned against spreading unverified information that could cause unrest.
