The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has apprehended 53 individuals suspected of involvement in thuggery and drug-related activities.
Chairman of the committee and Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Yusuf Ibrahim-Kofarmata, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Saturday in Kano.
He explained that the suspects were arrested during a series of clearance operations aimed at tackling crime and substance abuse across the state.
According to him, intelligence-led raids were carried out between March 13 and March 14 in various locations, including Yakasai, Kofar Mata, Zango, Zage, Zanzado, Rimi Market, Shahuchi Park, Kano Line, Sharada, Ja’in, and Dan Agundi.
During the operations, law enforcement recovered three parcels and 50 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, two bottles of codeine syrup, two tubes of rubber solution, and a gallon of “suck and die.”
Additionally, authorities seized 105 tablets of suspected exol, five cutlasses, two scissors, two clubs, and a collection of charms.
A significant quantity of cannabis sativa was discovered at a well-known drug den in Zanzado, where security operatives also confiscated a delivery vehicle and five cattle believed to belong to a suspected drug dealer.
Ibrahim-Kofarmata stated that the suspects would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to ensuring a safer and drug-free environment for Kano residents, noting that the task force—comprising security agencies and government officials—remains dedicated to restoring peace and order in the state.
