The Kano State government has instructed all 44 local government areas in the state to provide funds adding up to ₦670 million for the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi.
This decision is aimed at both fixing old vehicles and buying new ones for the Emirate Council.
A memo from the Ministry of Local Government, dated March 25, 2025, and signed by the Director of Local Government Inspection, Abubakar S. Dabo, was sent to all local government chairmen.
Each local government is expected to contribute ₦15,227,272.72, which will be pulled from the State/Local Government Joint Account.
Details from the document show that the money will go to a company, Sottom Snergy Resources Ltd, which has been selected to carry out the work.
The task involves fully refurbishing two vintage vehicles — a 1993 Fleetwood Cadillac limousine and a Daimler D5 420 from 1998 — each budgeted at ₦25 million.
In addition, the funds will cover the purchase of four brand-new vehicles: a Toyota Hilux pickup 2024 model for ₦98 million, a Toyota Hiace Bus for ₦98 million, a Toyota Land Cruiser VXR full option 2024 model for ₦268 million, and a Prado 2024 model for ₦156 million.
The memo also informed other key offices, such as the Auditor General and Zonal Inspectors in the Ministry for Local Government, asking them to make sure that all proper processes are followed during the release and use of the funds.
Plans are already underway to bring in the vehicles and restore the vintage ones, as the company has been contacted to start work.
