Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Resigns from NNPP Alongside Lawmakers and LG Chairmen

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), along with 21 members of the State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and 44 local government chairmen in the state.

Yusuf announced his decision in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Diso-Chiranchi Ward of the NNPP in Gwale Local Government Area, with the resignation taking effect from 25th January 2026.

This decision comes amid a wave of speculation over the past few weeks regarding the governor’s political future. Earlier this week, Governor Yusuf met with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, which reportedly generated discontent between the governor and leaders of his party who remain loyal to former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Further details will follow.
