Kano Government Plans Mass Wedding for 2,000 Couples

By Charles Maduka

The Kano State Government has announced plans to organize a mass wedding for 2,000 couples as part of its social welfare programme aimed at supporting less privileged citizens. The directive was issued to the State Hisba Board by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Deputy Commander-General of the Hisba Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen, said preparations were already underway to ensure the success of the event. He explained that while a specific date had not been fixed, necessary arrangements and procedures for the exercise were being put in place.

According to him, all intending couples must undergo compulsory medical tests, including screenings for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, genotype, and drug use. He noted that anyone who fails to complete the medical screening would not be allowed to participate.

The mass wedding programme, reintroduced by Governor Yusuf’s administration, is designed to assist widows, divorcees, and spinsters whose families cannot afford marriage costs. It also aims to discourage prostitution and other social vices among young people in the state.

The initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to promoting moral values, strengthening family life, and supporting vulnerable members of society across Kano State.
