Muhuyi Magaji, the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, was freed after being detained by the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit on Friday.
Guardian reports that the situation confirmed that Magaji was arrested at his office by detectives who did not clarify the reason for the detention.
The arrest may be linked to an ongoing investigation into the misappropriation of ₦4 billion and assets tied to the Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited (KASCO) during the previous administration.
Two weeks ago, the commission revealed the seizure of over ₦2 billion in assets, including vehicles linked to the former KASCO Managing Director.
After spending several hours in custody, Magaji was released on bail, but he was asked to submit a written statement before being allowed to leave around 10:45 pm.
The police have instructed him to report to the Force headquarters in Abuja on Monday for further questioning.
Neither the Kano State Police Command nor the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit has issued a formal statement about the arrest.
