Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has apologised over the recent incident involving him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while firmly denying claims that he was carrying alcohol.
In a statement issued on Friday through his media aide, the veteran artiste described the episode as “unfortunate” and clarified that the flask in question contained only water. According to him, he suffers from chronic dehydration, which requires him to constantly stay hydrated.
K1 explained that the flask was empty when he passed through two security screenings and was only filled with water at the airport lounge before he proceeded to board. He insisted that CCTV footage could confirm his account.
He also dismissed media reports that he was deboarded from an aircraft, stating that he never boarded the flight during the incident.
The Fuji legend tendered an unreserved apology to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet, Nigerians, and his fans across the world for any embarrassment the incident may have caused.
“I remain committed to promoting the image of Nigeria and will continue to uphold the responsibilities of a cultural ambassador,” K1 stated.
The apology comes after the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, confirmed that K1 had been placed on a no-fly list pending investigation, warning airlines not to breach the order.
