Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Friday, December 13, for an official trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.
A statement by Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President’s media aide, revealed that Shettima will represent President Bola Tinubu at the commissioning and naming ceremony of a $315 million oil production and storage facility in Dubai. The facility, owned by the Nigerian oil and gas company Oriental Energy, is set to be inaugurated on Saturday, December 14.
Following the event in Dubai, the Vice President will travel to Saudi Arabia, where he will perform the Lesser Hajj (Umrah) from December 16 to 19, 2024.
Nkwocha further disclosed that Shettima will hold a bilateral meeting on December 20 with the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Jeddah. Discussions will focus on co-financing arrangements for the second phase of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ Phase II) and strengthening IsDB’s project coordination in Nigeria to support the country’s agricultural and economic growth.
