Just In: Tinubu Confers National Honour on Bill Gates

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) on American billionaire and Microsoft co-founder, Mr. Bill Gates.

The conferment, which took place in Lagos on Tuesday, was made public by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, via a post on his official X handle (formerly Twitter).

The tech mogul and global philanthropist is currently in Nigeria on a working visit. According to a statement issued by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Gates’ presence in the country is to facilitate high-level discussions with President Tinubu, primarily focused on strengthening Nigeria’s primary healthcare system.

The recognition of Gates with one of Nigeria’s highest national honours reflects the country’s appreciation of his longstanding support for public health and human development across Africa, particularly through the Gates Foundation’s health and vaccination initiatives.

Further details surrounding the conferment ceremony and outcomes of Gates’ visit are expected to be made public in due course.
