JUST IN: Gospel singer, Aduke Gold is dead

Gospel singer Ajayi Aduke Morounkola, widely known as Aduke Gold, has passed away.

Her death was confirmed on Tuesday, August 13, by fellow gospel artist Esther Igbekele, who shared the news on her verified Facebook page, saying, “A GENERAL HAS FALLEN. ADUKE GOLD 🕊️🕊️🕊️#rip.”

The cause of her death is still unknown at the time of this report.

Born in Ilesha, Aduke Gold, who was initially known as Aduke Penkele, grew up in the Ogba and Badagry areas of Lagos. She was the 11th child in a polygamous family.

Aduke Gold first gained attention with her live performance at the first remembrance of the late gospel singer, Baba Ara, and officially started her music career in 2004. Her 2021 hit track “Nitori Ogo” further shot her into the limelight.

Aside from her music career, Aduke was passionate about education, especially for young children. She was a graduate of History and International Relations from Lagos State University and later earned a second degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Lagos.

The gospel music community is mourning the loss of one of its own.
