A Federal High Court in Abuja has accepted a video recording of Nnamdi Kanu’s interrogation by the Department of State Services (DSS) as part of the evidence in his ongoing trial.
The court also reviewed a statement Kanu made on October 15, 2015, in which he acknowledged the creation of Radio Biafra and its registration in London. Kanu explained that the station was not registered with Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), as he believed it was unnecessary.
In his statement, Kanu asserted that his actions were intended to advocate for the freedom of the people from the South East, South South, and some parts of Benue and Kogi. He strongly stated that freedom fighting is not a crime but a basic human right, both in Nigeria and worldwide.
Kanu also denied any participation in violent activities, claiming no evidence has linked him to such actions.
Along with the video and statement, four suitcases seized from Kanu’s hotel room in 2015 were presented in court. The items inside were displayed as part of the prosecution’s case.
Kanu’s defense counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), raised no objections when the prosecuting attorney, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), sought to admit the items into evidence.
Justice James Omotosho, who is presiding over the case, granted the request and officially incorporated the video and the suitcase contents as evidence in the trial.
