The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has urged citizens residing abroad to maintain and expand their investments in Nigeria, assuring them that the country remains welcoming to investors.
This message was conveyed by the Chairman and CEO of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in response to concerns raised by the Foreign Investors Network (FIN) over the demolition of a significant real estate project in Lagos.
In a statement released by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols at the Commission, Dabiri-Erewa addressed the complaint regarding the destruction of a $250 million real estate development by Winhomes Global Services Limited, located in Okun Ajah.
The demolition was reportedly linked to the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, and has prompted reactions from stakeholders, including FIN’s President, Ifeoma Nkengwu, and Country Representative, Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba.
While acknowledging the seriousness of the incident, Dabiri-Erewa revealed that NiDCOM has begun looking into the matter.
However, she explained that the Commission would allow the judicial process to unfold, as the case is currently before a court.
Despite the controversy, she reiterated that Nigeria remains an attractive environment for foreign investors, especially in sectors such as health care, information technology, agriculture, and property development.
She also pointed to the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) as a vital avenue for engaging diasporans interested in contributing to the nation’s economy and mentioned forthcoming collaborations with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment.
Dabiri-Erewa applauded Nigerians in the diaspora for their increasing involvement in national development, noting their rising remittances and steady investments under the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
