The Nigerian Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has instructed a full investigation into several high-ranking police officers accused of backdating their records.
This decision follows a letter from the Integrity Youth Alliance, a civic group, requesting action on January 6, 2025.
The officials under investigation include AIG Idowu Owohunwa, AIG Abdul Yari, AIG Benneth Igwe, and two Commissioners of Police, Peter Ukachi Opara and Obo Obo Ukani, among others.
The allegations claim that these officers manipulated their records to extend their service duration in violation of Nigeria’s Public Service Rules, Sahara Reporters reports.
The IGP has given the Monitoring Unit until January 20, 2025, to report their findings.
This comes after similar issues were raised regarding AIG Shuaya’u Lafia Abdulyari, who was also accused of altering his retirement documents.
