Former Ebonyi State Governor and current Minister of Works, David Umahi, has vowed never to abandon his successor, Francis Nwifuru, pledging to support him in completing two uninterrupted terms in office.
Umahi made this promise on Saturday at his hometown of Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area, while receiving members of the Izzi National Youths Forum who paid him a Christmas homage. He described the visit as a pleasant surprise and reiterated his determination to ensure Nwifuru’s success as governor.
“God forbid that Izzi people stand against me tomorrow, but my covenant with God and Nwifuru is to complete an uninterrupted eight years in office,” Umahi said. “Nothing will stop this. I fought principalities and powers alone and won to make him governor. Do you think I can’t do it now when I have more support?”
Umahi praised Nwifuru’s leadership qualities, describing him as humble and committed to the state’s progress. “Till the end of his eight years, I am not leaving him,” he emphasized, adding that the Izzi clan remains the best governance option for Ebonyi.
The minister also commended the Izzi National Youths Forum for their dedication and large turnout for the visit. “It is gratifying that you came to celebrate with me when you could have been at home celebrating with your son, the governor,” Umahi noted.
In his remarks, Andrew Elom, the national president of the forum, expressed gratitude to Umahi for keeping his promise to hand over the governorship to an Izzi indigene. He urged Umahi to continue guiding Nwifuru to ensure his administration’s success.
