I Built My Career Without Industry Support – Davido

By Charles Maduka

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reflected on his music journey while celebrating a new milestone of over 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify — his highest yet.

This comes after the release of his fifth studio album, 5ive, which has gained massive attention and topped music charts.

Speaking on how far he has come, Davido said his success wasn’t due to help from powerful figures in the music industry. He said he worked his way up through determination and belief in his craft.

“No co-sign, built from the ground up! Just God, good music and the best fans! I Appreciate you guys fr [for real]!” he wrote.

He added, “Who wan even CO-SIGN big man like me?? Hmmm another angle sha 5️⃣.”

Davido’s experience is different from that of some other artists who got early support from top industry players. Still, he credited his achievements to divine grace and loyal fans who have supported him over the years.

His album 5ive, released on April 18, 2025, features 17 tracks and has quickly become a hit, earning millions of streams across platforms and staying at the top of Afrobeats rankings.
