Human rights activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi has accused officers of the Ekiti State Police Command of scheming to abduct him from Lagos.
According to Farotimi, the alleged actions follow his compliance with prior police invitations and are tied to a defamation petition filed against him.
Farotimi detailed his experience, beginning with a summons from the Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos.
He reported to the station on November 13, 2024, addressing a complaint from Tony Elumelu’s legal team. Despite fulfilling his obligations and cooperating with investigations, he claimed subsequent events raised concerns about unlawful tactics.
He alleged that Ekiti State police sought to entrap him by pressuring individuals connected to him, including pastors and his domestic staff.
Farotimi recounted incidents where police interrogated church members and attempted to lure his household staff under false pretenses.
He expressed alarm over actions such as tracking his phone and intimidating innocent individuals.
Farotimi argued that any allegations against him relate to actions in Lagos, including the publication of his book critiquing Nigeria’s justice system.
He questioned the legitimacy of attempts to involve Ekiti authorities, labeling the situation as an abuse of power.
As the controversy unfolds, Farotimi reiterated his commitment to lawful processes while denouncing what he described as harassment and attempts to undermine his rights.
