Emmanuel Igbasan, a chartered management accountant and the Ondo State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, shared his upbringing as a bricklayer, commercial motorcycle operator, and commercial bus driver in an interview with The Nation’s correspondent, according to news that was posted online by the newspaper this morning.
When questioned about if it was his goal to become the commissioner of Ondo State during the interview, Emmanuel responded that it was just chance.
He stated, “I was an okada man and a bricklayer before I was made commissioner.” Then, have I ever thought of becoming a commissioner? The answer is “no.” Most of us originate from mud, not stone. I rode an Okada (commercial motorcycle) when I earned my first degree. When I was an apprentice to my master, who was also a bricklayer, he built the house in my hamlet.
Speaking further, he revealed that before his tale changed, he (Emmanuel) was an apprentice driver and that his boss is still a bricklayer today.
Even after receiving my degree, he claimed, “I drove from Kubua to Kano State to eke out a living. I prayed that everything would work out for me in the future. We are currently in the next bus stop, but the future has not yet arrived.
