Gunmen Kill PDP Ward Chairman, Son in Kwara State Attack

Gunmen have tragically killed the ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, along with his son.

The attack occurred on Tuesday night at the deceased’s home in Lile Village, near the Ndeji community. Sources reveal that the assailants stormed the residence and opened fire, killing both father and son on the spot.

A former local government chairman, who spoke to Daily Trust on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that “the deceased and his son were shot dead during the invasion.” The motive behind the attack remains unclear as of Wednesday.

Community leader Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed noted that this incident marks the third similar case in recent times where no ransom was demanded, suggesting that “this could point to a deeper motive.”

As of now, the police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. However, former Senate President and PDP leader in the state, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has confirmed the killings, describing the event as heartbreaking.

“This is a devastating loss. I am deeply saddened by the gruesome killing of Alhaji Kpotun and his son,” Saraki stated in a press release. He extended prayers for the repose of their souls and comfort for the grieving family and community.

Saraki also urged the Kwara State Government and security agencies to take swift action, calling for urgent measures to address the rising insecurity in the state. “The protection of lives and property must be a top priority,” he added.
