A wave of shock swept through Isseke community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State following the brutal killing of a family of four by unidentified gunmen.
The victims—three women and an elderly man—were reportedly asleep when the assailants stormed their residence in the late hours and carried out the attack. Their bodies were discovered lifeless in their apartment by neighbours who raised the alarm.
Although the motive behind the assault remains unclear, eyewitness accounts suggest the attack was unprovoked. The victims were identified as members of the family of Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo, popularly known as Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke.
Anambra State Police Command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, noting that a joint team of security operatives had since cordoned off the area to forestall further violence.
“The victims have been identified and their remains deposited at the mortuary. Investigations are ongoing,” he stated.
Ikenga added that security personnel have intensified surveillance in the community and are working with available leads to apprehend the perpetrators.
The police expressed condolences to the bereaved family and urged the public to assist with any useful information.
