Eight operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been killed in a deadly attack by suspected kidnappers on the BUA Cement Factory in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The incident, which occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2025, happened while the officers were escorting five Chinese expatriates after a routine patrol at the company’s entrance.
A senior NSCDC officer in Edo confirmed the incident on Saturday, revealing that one Chinese national was abducted during the attack, while four others were rescued. Four additional persons sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
“Eight of our members were indeed killed by kidnappers, but a statement will be officially released later today in Abuja,” the officer said.
Commandant Agun Gbenga has since visited the crime scene and the hospital where the injured victims are being treated. Joint security operations, involving sister agencies, have been launched to comb the surrounding forest in search of the perpetrators.
The attack comes on the heels of another incident on the Benin-Auchi Road, where 16 abducted passengers were rescued on Friday by police and local vigilantes after being forced into the forest by gunmen.
Police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, confirmed the rescue, adding that search and rescue efforts are ongoing to apprehend the kidnappers.
These incidents underscore the worsening security situation in Edo State as security agencies intensify efforts to restore peace and bring the attackers to justice.
