Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed one of the two doctors abducted in Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The deceased, identified as Tahir Abu Emhoye, was the younger brother of Abu Ibrahim Babatunde. Both were kidnapped on January 1, 2026, at about 7:30 pm along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, at the gate of their residence, as they were about to enter their home after closing from work.
The slain doctor was said to be a fresh medical graduate of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, while his elder brother is currently undergoing housemanship at the Edo University Teaching Hospital, Auchi.
It was gathered that the kidnappers contacted the family on Saturday, January 3, 2026, demanding ₦200 million as ransom for the release of the victims.
A viral video posted by Ismail Egbomiade on the Auchi Blog and Services Facebook page claimed that the deceased, a former Director of Sports of the AAU Students’ Union Government, was killed and his body dumped near a river.
Security agencies were said to have discovered the lifeless body while combing bushes and forests in search of the abducted victims.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the body was found by the riverside and was identified by family members as one of the abducted doctors.
