Gunmen have demanded N100 million to free Nelson Adepoyigi, a ward chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, who was taken from his home in Ifon town on Monday night.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. while he was trying to park his car.
Reports said the attackers beat him with sticks before forcing him into their vehicle.
His wife, who heard him shouting for help, came outside only to find that he had been taken.
Since then, the kidnappers have contacted the family and asked for a ransom, but talks are still ongoing to reduce the amount.
Police confirmed the incident and said Adepoyigi was kidnapped near his farm along the Ifon-Owo road.
The Ondo State Police Command has launched an investigation to rescue him.
In a separate event, trouble broke out in Ikakumo community in Akoko Northeast Local Government Area after a herdsman was killed during a fight with a local vigilante group.
The clash happened when one of the vigilantes questioned a herder over a missing man known as Balogun.
The argument turned violent, leading to the death of the herdsman.
Two others, including the head of the vigilante group, were also injured in the incident.
The situation has caused fear among residents who are worried that there may be retaliation from the herders.
Police have confirmed this second incident and assured that calm has been restored, while investigations are ongoing.
