Gunmen attack military checkpoint in Abia, set patrol van ablaze

Gunmen reportedly attacked one military checkpoint in Aba the commercial hub of Abia State in the early hours of Friday.

It was gathered that the gunmen also set a patrol van at the checkpoint ablaze.

The incident happened at the Tonimas junction axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

A military source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the gunmen had laid ambush for the soldiers, who were on patrol.The source added that no soldier was killed during the attack, adding that efforts have been intensified to arrest the perpetrators.

Some residents in the area told our correspondent that the incident had caused pandemonium amongst them, adding that they are still in fear as of the time of filing this report.
