Gunmen Attack Ambulance in Kogi, Kill Undertaker

A group of gunmen ambushed an ambulance on the Egbe-Ogbe-Ponyan road in Kogi State’s Yagba East local government.

The attack occurred around 5 p.m on Saturday as the ambulance was returning to Egbe after transporting a body for burial in Ponyan.

Segun Adekoya, the director of the undertaker group, was killed during the ambush.

Adekoya, who had recently purchased an ambulance with community help, was well-liked for his work. He and his team had successfully completed the funeral earlier that day.

After fixing a flat tire on the way back, Adekoya and his team were caught by the attackers, who were reportedly 30 in number.

Adekoya, who had a previous leg injury, was unable to escape. His body was found the next morning by farmers who raised an alarm.

Local residents believe the attack may be linked to ongoing herder conflicts in the area or the actions of kidnappers who have been active recently.

In response to the killing, a local leader, Chief Leke Akogun, expressed concern over the growing insecurity in the region, which he says has caused many to stay indoors.

The minority leader of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Otunba Ibikunle Idowu, also voiced his concern, noting that the area’s proximity to multiple states makes it vulnerable to such attacks.
