Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, was arrested in Abuja after raising concerns about repeated unauthorised debits from his mother’s Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) account.
The arrest happened on Friday and was carried out by officers of the Nigeria Police Force at the Area 3 division.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the situation, saying the influencer had earlier gone public on social media to express frustration over several deductions labeled as loan repayments.
According to him, these charges were made even though his mother never applied for any loans.
Before the arrest, VeryDarkMan and his mother had visited a GTBank branch in Abuja to demand a bank statement and understand the reason behind the deductions.
He shared online that there had been more than seven debit alerts this year alone, leaving them worried and confused about the bank’s actions.
This arrest adds to earlier reports of similar complaints against GTBank. In April, a man named Ariyo Ahmed Adewale accused the bank of being behind his arrest after he protested at a Lagos branch over ₦2 million that disappeared from his account.
Ariyo claimed the bank linked the missing funds to transactions made on Jumia, an online shopping platform he insisted he had never used.
Ariyo explained that after discovering the unauthorised transactions, he quickly contacted GTBank to block his account. Unfortunately, the charges kept increasing before the bank could act.
Seeking answers, Ariyo went to the Kosofe branch for a detailed statement but said he faced resistance.
Police officers later advised him to submit a formal complaint and involve his lawyer to file a petition.
