Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has warned opposition parties against attempting to lure former President Muhammadu Buhari into any coalition aimed at challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Governor Sule issued this caution on Friday during a grand reception in Lafia, organized in honor of Labaran Magaji, the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG). The event was attended by the 13 local government chairmen of the state.
There have been rumors suggesting that the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc, which merged with the APC in 2013, might form an alliance with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to oppose President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming elections.
However, Governor Sule refuted these claims, emphasizing that Buhari remains a key figure in the APC. He reassured party members that Buhari, along with his loyal supporters, would not leave the party.
“There is no plan for the CPC to leave the APC. Only Muhammadu Buhari speaks for the CPC. When he supports someone, the CPC stands with them,” Sule stated.
He also recounted a recent visit to Buhari in Kaduna, where they reaffirmed their commitment, with Sule telling the former president, “Baba, you’re not going anywhere. We are staying united to strengthen our political home.”
Governor Sule also praised the new SSG, who previously served as the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. He urged Magaji to uphold his integrity and continue his dedicated service to the state. He commended the local government chairmen for organizing the reception as a sign of unity.
Abubakar Malami, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, spoke highly of Magaji’s contributions to legal reforms in Nasarawa, including speeding up the resolution of criminal cases and easing prison congestion through alternative sentencing. He called Magaji a model public servant and a symbol of progressive governance.
The state chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Safiyanu Andaha, also praised Magaji’s extensive political and administrative experience, noting that the reception was a demonstration of support for a dedicated public servant.
In his remarks, Magaji thanked the attendees for their support and promised to continue serving the state with loyalty and diligence.
