Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has introduced two specialized security initiatives, Udo Ga-Achị and Agunechemba, as part of ongoing efforts to address the state’s security challenges.

According to Politics Nigeria, the programs were unveiled on Saturday, January 18, during a ceremony held at the International Convention Centre in Awka. The event also marked the formal enactment of the Anambra Homeland Security Law.

Speaking at the event, Soludo highlighted the importance of security in fostering development and progress in Anambra. He reaffirmed his government’s determination to combat criminal activities, particularly those disguised as political agitations or liberation movements.

To encourage public participation in tackling crime, the governor announced a N5 million reward for credible information leading to the arrest of kidnappers. Soludo expressed concern about the growing trend of criminal enterprises in the region, emphasizing the need for a strategic and multifaceted response.

“The nature of criminality in the South-East and across Nigeria has become more complex and multifaceted,” he noted. “We must adopt a well-thought-out and comprehensive approach that incorporates both physical security measures and community engagement.”

He also called on residents of Anambra to work together in eradicating insecurity, stressing the importance of collective responsibility. Citing a report from the National Bureau of Statistics, Soludo revealed that over N2.2 trillion was paid in ransom to kidnappers in 2024, with unreported cases likely increasing the figure to over N10 trillion.

The newly launched initiatives are expected to strengthen security efforts across the state, with a focus on reducing criminal activities and restoring peace and order. Soludo urged the people of Anambra to support the government’s efforts in creating a safer and more secure environment.
