The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a ward head, Mohammed Tukur, 55, for allegedly raping a 12-year old girl in Zambuk, Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, detailing recent operational successes across the state.
According to Abdullahi, the incident occurred on August 9, 2025. “Zambuk Division received a report that the suspect had allegedly raped the victim, identified as Zulei Malam Dahiru, of the same address. Police visited the scene, rushed the victim to General Hospital Zambuk for medical examination, and arrested the suspect,” he said, adding that investigations are ongoing.
The arrest was among several breakthroughs recorded by the command, including the recovery of vandalised electric cables, iron pipes, and railway track bolts in Bajoga; the arrest of a wanted serial armed robber in Kwadon; and the apprehension of seven suspects linked to theft of railway steel sleepers in Gombe metropolis.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, commended the swift action of officers and urged residents to promptly report cases of sexual violence and other crimes for immediate action.
