The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, has rejected claims that he plans to return to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, describing the PDP as a failed platform with no future.
Ganduje was reacting to comments made by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who predicted that the APC would soon break apart, forcing former PDP members like Ganduje to return to their old party.
Lamido had said on Sunday that the APC’s internal differences would soon cause a split, adding that those who left the PDP would come back within six months, and the party would be strong enough to take power in 2027.
However, in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by his Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje dismissed Lamido’s remarks as baseless and unrealistic. He said it was Lamido, not himself, who would soon join the APC, since the PDP, according to him, is already in decline.
Ganduje added that the PDP would likely cease to exist by the end of 2025 due to its internal crisis. He said the APC, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, continues to grow stronger, with more prominent Nigerians joining the party from across the country.
He said the APC is not distracted but rather focused on building on its progress and preparing for a clear victory in the 2027 general elections. He added jokingly, “We’ll soon welcome Sule Lamido because, very soon, he’ll have no other place to go. The PDP is dead.”
Ganduje also reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged to strengthen the party’s internal democracy while promoting good governance.
He advised Lamido to stop spreading false claims and instead focus on resolving the PDP’s internal problems.
