Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, widely known as Killaboi, has been returned to Nigeria from Doha, Qatar, to face trial for the death of 21-year-old Augusta Onuwabhagbe.
She was a university student whose life ended in July 2023 at the suspect’s home in Ajah, Lagos.
The Nigerian Police confirmed that he arrived in the country early on Saturday.
His return was made possible by efforts from the Nigeria Police, the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL in Abuja, and authorities in Qatar.
The case gained renewed attention after the victim’s family submitted a petition in September 2024, which led to an international search.
Investigations linked Nnayereugo to the murder, and shortly after the crime, he reportedly fled the country.
He had also posted a video online in which he tried to explain what happened, but the police viewed the move as an effort to mislead the investigation.
A red notice was issued through INTERPOL after he was declared wanted in October 2023.
In October last year, he was found in Sierra Leone under a false name and taken into custody.
However, he escaped during a prison break in November.
After that, he kept changing locations across several regions including West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East using fake identities.
Eventually, he settled in Doha in January 2025 under another false name and used a fake Guinean passport to secure a job.
He was later tracked and arrested in February 2025 through international coordination and biometric checks.
The extradition request from Nigeria was approved by Qatar, allowing his return. Nigerian authorities said he would now face prosecution.
The police assured the public that justice will be pursued and thanked both local and international bodies for their help in returning the suspect to Nigeria.
