Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his family have left the Government House in Port Harcourt following the declaration of emergency rule by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Fubara reportedly departed the premises on Wednesday morning after spending the previous night there.
The state remains peaceful despite the political tension. Residents in Port Harcourt are continuing with their daily routines, discussing the president’s decision. While some agree with the move, believing it will restore stability, others argue that Tinubu has no legal grounds to remove the governor and the House of Assembly.
Markets and businesses are still operating, showing no major disruptions. Some residents believe that appointing a sole administrator could help resolve financial issues, including the payment of salaries for civil servants and local government workers. They fear that if salaries are not paid by the end of March, the situation could become more difficult for the state.
