FRSC Seizes 60 Vehicles in Nationwide Crackdown on Fake Number Plates

By: Bayero Ade

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has seized 60 vehicles in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of a nationwide operation targeting illegal number plates.

According to NAN, in a statement to the press on Monday, the Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) in charge of operations, Hyginus Omeje, explained that the operation aimed to curb the growing use of counterfeit number plates across the country.

The special intervention initiative is part of the FRSC’s efforts to restore order on the highways and prevent fake plates from being used for criminal activities. Omeje emphasized the security risks associated with counterfeit plates, stating, “The use of fake number plates has become a significant security issue. Some individuals are using unauthorized plates not recognized by law, and we have received reports of diplomatic plates being cloned.”

He further assured that the FRSC would pursue all leads to uncover the sources of fake number plates and hold those responsible accountable. “The operation will continue across all major cities in the country,” Omeje confirmed.

Godwin Omiko, the ACM responsible for motor vehicle administration, reiterated that the crackdown was necessary, stressing that the use of illegal number plates posed a serious threat to public safety and national security.

“Fake number plates, unauthorized diplomatic plates, expired plates, and covering of plates are all offenses under this special operation,” Omiko stated. “We urge anyone using such plates to remove them or face legal consequences. We also encourage the public to report anyone with fake or unauthorized plates to the nearest FRSC office.”
