The Badagry Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has returned cash totaling N692,850 and several mobile phones recovered from a recent traffic accident to the families of those involved.
The incident, which occurred on July 6, involved a commercial Mazda bus transporting 18 passengers from Mile 2. The vehicle reportedly rammed into a stationary truck along the Atura section of the Mile 2–Badagry Expressway.
According to FRSC officials, six passengers died at the crash site, while two others died while being transported to the hospital. Thirteen others were seriously injured.
Speaking during the handover of the recovered items, the Unit Commander, Mr. William Manga, said his team promptly rescued the injured and took them to Badagry General Hospital for treatment. The remains of the deceased were deposited in the hospital’s morgue.
Mr. Manga attributed the cause of the crash to speeding and unsafe overtaking by the bus driver.
Receiving the belongings on behalf of four of the victims, Alhaji Tsoho Babangida thanked the FRSC for ensuring the items were returned to their rightful owners.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Arewa Community in Badagry, Alhaji Haruna Sanni, explained that the passengers were mostly traders heading to Seme to buy vegetables such as carrots and Irish potatoes. He commended the FRSC for their transparency and compassion toward the victims’ families.
