Fresh document recognizes Anyanwu as PDP’s legitimate National Secretary

A newly surfaced document has confirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), amid ongoing internal party controversy.

The letter, dated May 7, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was jointly signed by Ambassador Umar Damagum, the party’s Acting National Chairman, and Senator Anyanwu himself, who endorsed the correspondence in his capacity as National Secretary.

The document officially presented Jude Ezenwafor as the PDP’s candidate for the upcoming Anambra governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

According to the letter, “We write to notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that EZENWAFOR JUDE C. emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s Gubernatorial Candidate in the party primary election held in Anambra State and duly monitored by the Commission.”

It also disclosed that Hon. Okeke Francis Chukwudi would serve as Ezenwafor’s running mate, and the party forwarded all relevant documents—Forms EC-9, EC-9B, and EC-13B—to INEC for both candidates. INEC confirmed receiving the submission on May 12, 2025.

However, this latest move has reignited a leadership dispute within the PDP.

The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and Governors’ Forum had previously declared Senator Anyanwu ineligible to continue as National Secretary after he contested in the 2023 Imo State gubernatorial election.

In his place, Deputy National Secretary Setonji Koshoedo was named Acting National Secretary.
