Istifanus Gyang, who once represented Plateau North in the Senate, has stepped down from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This announcement came on Monday, May 26, 2025, through a letter sent to the local PDP chairman in Rafau Ward, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Gyang’s decision to resign ends nearly ten years of his involvement with the party.
He expressed concerns about the party’s direction and leadership, saying the PDP no longer follows democratic values as it once did.
According to him, the party has stopped focusing on the people it serves.
He also mentioned that the PDP is unable to properly support Plateau State’s interests within the wider political landscape.
He said the party’s current leadership lacks the strength to represent the region well in Nigeria’s political affairs.
The former senator explained that he feels responsible for promoting fairness, equal treatment, and good governance for his community and state.
He said these principles must be defended to keep politics open and fair for everyone.
