Foreign minister seeks US support on local vaccine production, exports

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has sought the support of the United States in the transfer of intellectual property rights and the technology required to produce Covid-19 vaccines manually.

This is as he thanked the US for the recent delivery of 12 Super Tucano jets.

Onyema said this on Thursday evening while briefing a joint session of the press at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, alongside the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.

He also said that the Nigerian government is working to create and foster greater market access with the US to ease the export of Nigerian agricultural products to the US market.

Onyema revealed that climate change was part of issues discussed with Vice President Osinbajo earlier.

On his part, the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said the Biden administration would work closely with Nigeria to provide support in the areas of vaccines, military, and trade.

He also used the opportunity to condemn the recent attacks by the Sudanese military on protesters on Wednesday.
