Food security: Aiyedatiwa to prioritise agriculture for economic growth

Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritise agriculture for economic growth and food security in the state, and country at large.

Aiyedatiwa stated this at the 10th anniversary of Ondo State Agricultural Commodities’ Association (OSACA) held on Tuesday in Akure.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Mr Olajide Adelami, said that prioritising farmers would reduce the rate of hunger and increase the economic development of the country.

“It is our hope that through agriculture, we can propel growth and development in both urban and rural areas through the provision of jobs to our teeming youths

“We can also lift our people out of poverty and improve on their socio-economic welfare through agriculture.

“Therefore, our administration will continue to support initiatives like OSACA, empower farmers and enhance agriculture productivity,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa, who commended OSACA for promoting capacity building, market access and contributing to the state economic development, assured farmers of necessary support through the provision of tools and others.

Earlier, Chief Abiodun Adejo, OSACA Chairman, said that the 10th anniversary was to commemorate a decade of dedication, resilience and unwavering commitment to agricultural development and economic progress in the state.

Adejo said that OSACA was born out of the necessity to bridge the gap between the government and the farmers.

He promised to engage and collaborate with the relevant stakeholders to enhance agricural products

“We want the state government to key into Federal Government initiatives, and also buy tractors for ease of access for the farmers.

“If government could look at agriculture, I believe nobody will shout about hunger and everything will be going on smoothly in the country.

“Our farmers are ready to work, if the necessary support is given by the government,” he said.

Also, Mr Akeem Ogundeko, Director of Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Ondo State, promised continuous government support to the farmers.

“We will continue to support farmers, particularly in distribution of farm inputs and other agricultural benefits,” he said.
