Akure, the capital of Ondo State, is witnessing notable changes in food prices, offering relief and challenges for shoppers.
A market survey conducted by The Nation shows a sharp drop in the cost of several staples. A bag of garri now sells for N35,000, down from N55,000.
Tomatoes have seen a decline, with a basket now priced at N60,000 compared to the previous N80,000. Similarly, a 50kg bag of beans has dropped significantly, from N250,000 to N130,000.
Rice prices have seen a slight reduction, with a 50kg bag now costing N90,000 instead of N93,000. A carton of spaghetti also comes cheaper, now at N23,000, down from N35,000.
However, some essentials have become more expensive. Palm oil prices have jumped, with 25 litres now selling for N54,000, up from N37,000. The cost of rodo pepper has surged, rising from N15,000 to N45,000.
