The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 60-year-old motorcyclist, Wasiu Babatunde Adeniran, who was swept away by floodwaters during a heavy downpour in the Alakuko area of Lagos.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stated that the incident occurred around 4pm on May 20, 2025, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. Adeniran reportedly lost control of his motorcycle in the flood and was carried away by the raging waters.

Efforts to locate him began immediately. His motorcycle was found downstream around 6pm that same day, but his body was not recovered until 9am the following morning at the Obasanjo River in Ota, Ogun State.

Police detectives visited both the accident and recovery sites, took photographs of the deceased, and deposited his body at a public morgue for autopsy. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The command expressed condolences to Adeniran’s family and assured the public of a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
