Flood Displaces Over 200 Families in Kebbi’s Zogirma Community

A devastating flood has forced over 200 families out of their homes in Zogirma, a village in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, after a prolonged and intense rainfall swept through the area.

The downpour, which residents say was among the most severe in recent years, led to widespread destruction. Homes were flooded, farmlands ruined, and food supplies destroyed, leaving many villagers displaced and in urgent need of assistance.

Responding to the incident, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris visited the affected community on Thursday to offer support and assess the damage. During his visit, he announced a ₦50 million relief fund to help cushion the impact of the flood on the victims.

“The government stands with you in this difficult time and will act swiftly to restore stability in this community,” Governor Idris assured residents.

In addition to the relief fund, the governor approved the upgrade of the local Government Day Secondary School to a boarding school and pledged to renovate the palace of the District Head. He also donated ₦10 million to support the renovation project.

Grateful for the intervention, the District Head of Zogirma, Alhaji Mohammed Jambo Tele, praised the governor for his compassion and timely response, assuring him of continued support from the community.

Also speaking during the visit, the Chairman of Bunza Local Government, Zayyanu Shehu Bunza, commended the governor’s quick action, noting that the relief measures would help ease the burden on displaced residents.

Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has started distributing emergency supplies to those affected. According to SEMA Chairman Bello Yakubu, the items being distributed include 100 bags each of rice, millet, and sorghum, as well as tomatoes and other food items.
